A distinguishing feature of Marina Bay and a key to its success is the seamless integration of the public spaces both inside and outside.
The hotel has been created to complement the URA’s long-term planning goal of finishing the development ring around the Marina Bay basin. To open views from the CBD to the Singapore Strait beyond, the building is visually porous and set back from the waterfront edge in accordance with URA rules. The design incorporates a large, linking atrium lobby at street level that widens the city’s public pedestrian network.

The resort is owned by Las Vegas Sands Corporation, and at the time of its launch in 2010, it was valued at S$8 billion (US$6.88 billion), making it the most costly standalone casino property in the world. The resort features a 2,561-room hotel, a convention center measuring 120,000 square meters (1,300,000 square feet), the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands mall measuring 74,000 square meters (800,000 square feet), two floating crystal pavilions, art-science exhibits, a museum, a large theatre, celebrity chef restaurants, and the biggest atrium casino in the world with 500 tables and 1,600 slot machines.
